We’ve recently been working hard to fundraise for our drama productions; ‘K.I.L.L’, ‘Spelling Bee’, ‘Elaine’ and ‘This Is Mine’. The reason behind our fundraising is to help the pre-production and production process of the four drama’s which includes purchasing props, costumes, equipment, providing food for actors and so on. In order to achieve the perfect look for these drama’s we definitely are in need money! Any sort of professional production needs money in order to make the production a success, which is why we decided to organise events to help us with this fundraising. One of which was an ‘International Food Fair’. This took place on the 6th of March 2018, from 12-2pm at the forum in University of Westminster, Harrow Campus. It was a bloody success! There are over 60 people in our TV Production course and all of us are from different parts of the world, some are Bulgarian, Portuguese, Polish, Bengali, Indian, Chinese, Turkish, you name it! We have a very diverse group and keeping this in mind is what led us to have an international food fair. As soon as the idea came to mind the fundraising team announced it to the course students and the development of the event began! We asked our fellow students to cook and prepare something traditional from their culture and we would sell it!
To be completely honest, the organisation of the event was indeed stressful, gaining permission for the venue, sorting out risk assessments, signing disclaimer agreements, listing ingredients for anyone who has allergies, advertising the event and so on, was definitely tough. BUT, with hard work, dedication and good leadership, there was no reason for the event not to run smoothly.
After everything was sorted, all we needed to wait for was the actual event and to see if everyone would keep to their word and bring amazing traditional food. Which they did! We had beautiful, lovely food cooked and made! Foods such as samosas, spring rolls, vitumbuwa (fritters), dumplings, dim sum, biryani, Kazakh donuts, Tteokboki and much, much more were made. It was great to see the effort everyone had put in to make something for the fundraiser. Team work makes the dream work, right?
We did have a slow start to the fundraiser but with the help of all our sellers and the fundraising team, we managed to attract people to our food fair and began to sell! Once we started to sell, it was tremendous! People kept on coming. It was great. Also, having music being played really kept the whole vibe of the fundraiser alive and kept all our sellers enthusiastic! It also attracted more customers which was brilliant. We had photography going on, Smoke TV had been filming the event and interviewing customers and our team members. Overall, it was a successful event, we managed to raise near enough to £400, £386.62 to be exact, which is much more than we had expected! Everything went extremely well! Loved it!
